4 Worst foods to avoid for Urinary Tract Infection

Urinary tract infection is an infection in the urinary bladder, which is very common in women, this is because women have short urethra and it is closer to the anus compares to men’s anus. In addition to that, women’s estrogen level decreases when they reach their menopause, which because of that there will be a loss of protective vaginal flora. Vaginal flora is a microorganism that provides protection against infection, the lesser it is the most prone you’re to have the infection.

When you have UTI, there are foods that will help relieve or even prevent Urinary tract infection. But there are also foods that will worsen the symptoms of UTI. These are the foods that you must avoid for Urinary traction Infection:

1. Coffee and other Caffeinated drinks


Studies have shown that people who drink coffee or other caffeinated drinks tend to experience worsening symptom of Urinary tract Infection, due to increased irritation in the bladder. In addition to that, Caffeine is a diuretic, which means it makes you feel an urge to empty your bladder through urination and this decreases hydration in the body. If your body becomes dehydrated, your urine becomes concentrated with salts that irritate your bladder and therefore can worsen this symptom of UTI. Excessive urine production from caffeine intake may indirectly increase your risk of UTI if you resist the frequent urge to urinate as needed and thus harbor bacterial growth in your urine. It is advisable to drink non-caffeinated drinks such as herbal tea.

Alcohol drinks such as the Wine, Beer, Champagne, Whiskey or much more other are actually good for your health if you drink small to moderate amount of alcohol, but drinking excessive amount produces horrible effects. When you have Urinary tract Infection, it isn’t good for your bladder, because like coffee it is diuretic. The causes are technically the same like for Coffee. In this case, drinking water is highly recommended as this will help relieve the effect of Urinary tract Infection by flushing it out.

3. Acidic Fruits


Acidic fruits such as Orange, Tomatoes, Strawberry and other fruits that are very acidic will cause irritation in the bladder, which will worsen the symptoms of Urinary tract Infection. However, despite this, Cranberry juice is also acidic, but the same time it produces greater benefits for UTI

4. Spicy Foods


Spicy foods such as Jalapeno, Red pepper or Chili Flakes tend to irritate your urinary bladder, which will worsen the symptoms of Urinary Tract Infection. However, there is not enough evidence to indicate on why spicy foods cause irritation in the bladder.
